GOLDFIELDS NULLARBOR RANGELANDS BIOSECURITY ASSOCIATION
FRRR PASTORAL BUSINESS TOOLBOX
THE FUNDING
GNRBA was successful in securing a grant from FRRR: Future Drought Fund’s Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought. Drought preparation includes many areas of assistance, training, collaboration, understanding and access to tools. Tools that guide your personal situation and business to survive the good and bad climatic conditions.
GNRBA put together a Pastoral Business Toolbox – whole of business workshops for the Southern Rangelands Pastoral Industry. Two Workshop were held. The first one in Kookynie at Morapoi Station on the 13th of November 2024 and the second one on the second of April 2025 at Kanandah Station.

IN THE FIELD At Kanandah
The second event was held at Kanandah Station. First stop for the field trip were the old lime kilns. Lots of history there. Next up, the old grazing exclosure sites, where Richard Marver talked about vegetation and grazing, after which we had a look at spillway erosion at a dam site.
During morning tea Daniel Birleson and Kelsi Wells from DFES explained how DFES works with pastoralists when there is an emergency. For urgent issues the Goldfields Midlands Regional Duty Coordinator (24/7 contact) can be reached at 1800 966 077.
Then Richard Brake spoke about infrastructure investment. Last stop before heading back to the homestead for lunch was an area that had been under water for a prolonged area. We looked at vegetation and regrowth.
AFTERNOON SESSIONS
After lunch the workshop continued at the Kanandah Homestead. Louise O’Neill explained what happens when we are feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. She walked us through some coping skills.
Richard Brake took a good look at business planning, management and budgeting. He gave financial tools to get a better grip on the day to day running of a station.
Richard Marver closed the day by pointing out the benefits of seeking help from a professional consultant.
