FRRR PASTORAL BUSINESS TOOLBOX

THE FUNDING

GNRBA was successful in securing a grant from FRRR: Future Drought Fund’s Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought. Drought preparation includes many areas of assistance, training, collaboration, understanding and access to tools. Tools that guide your personal situation and business to survive the good and bad climatic conditions.

GNRBA put together a Pastoral Business Toolbox – whole of business workshops for the Southern Rangelands Pastoral Industry. Two Workshop are on the program. The first one in Kookynie at Morapoi Station on the 13th of November 2024 and the second one to be held at Rawlinna in March 2025.

IN THE FIELD

The first event was held at Morapoi Station, where Greg Stubbs welcomed everybody to the station and gave a presentation about the history of Morapoi, as well as providing access to the facilities, food and lodging for the participants.

In the field Richard Marver talked about the contour of the land, how to measure and map it and how to keep the water to stay longer without creating erosion. He also went on to identify plants and their nutritional value for livestock.

During Morning Tea, Damien Berlison and Kelsi Well from DFES, talked about what they can do for pastoralists in case of emergency.

IN THE CLASSROOM

After lunch the workshop continued in the conference room. Richard Brake took a good look at business planning, management and succession planning and he gave financial tools to get a better grip on the day to day running of a station.

Louise O’Neill tied it all in by looking at general well-being and mental health. Communication, values and resilience are key to not only running a healthy business but also creating a healthy personal environment.
